NATURE EXPERIENCE The Karoo National Botanic Garden was established in 1946; of its 154 ha, 10 ha are under cultivation. The plants in the cultivated section have been grouped climatically, taxonomically and geographically, and there are species displays of succulents, bulbous plants and carrion flowers. The natural vegetation, which is classified as Karoo Broken Veld, comprises mainly succulents, with a few scattered trees. The best time to visit the garden is during the winter and spring months when the flowers provide a blaze of colour. Location: Western edge of the Little Karoo; north of Worcester. Access: From Worcester cross the N1 and continue northwards for 3 km. The Karoo National Botanic Garden lies on the right and is clearly signposted. Accommodation: None. There are hotels and caravan park in Worcester. Other facilities: Several short walking trails; picnic area close to the garden; an information brochure, labelled plants; Braille trail; slide shows; guided tours. Open: Throughout the year. Opening time: 08h00 to 17h00.
